Sprucing Up Amenities with a Rooftop Golf Green

When RFR Realty in Stamford decided to spruce up their amenities at Two Stamford Plaza, a rooftop putting green was a key element of their initiative.

To help put the plan into place, RFR enlisted Eastern Land Management (ELM), an award-winning, single source provider of commercial landscape management. ELM installed the putting green on the fourth floor of Stamford Plaza. The artificial 2,300-square-foot, eight-hole putting green resides within the nearly two acres of the plaza’s rooftop landscape as part of this urban oasis.

“We wanted to do something innovative and enjoyable for our tenants so they are able to take advantage of the beautiful weather, in addition to just eating lunch outside on the plaza,” said RFR Portfolio Director, Margaret Carlson. “Golfers who want to practice their putting or novices who just want to have fun can enjoy this amenity during their free time away from the office.”

Logistics of this fourth-floor rooftop project included a crane to move the materials from street level to rooftop. The green’s footprint and contours mirror the 17th green at Augusta National.

“Now that rooftop decks and fitness centers have essentially become the norm, building owners are looking for new ways to up their game for their tenants,” said Bruce T. Moore, Sr., President/CEO, of ELM. “A putting green is just one out-of-the-box idea for property managers and owners to spruce up their amenities.”

This rooftop golf green has rapidly become a very popular spot for novices and “pros” alike.

ELM has been the landscape provider for RFR Stamford Plaza since 2009, and in 2012 won The National Association of Landscape Professionals’ (formerly PLANET) prestigious National Grand Award for their landscape management services at RFR Stamford.
